Tom is a Managing Director at i(x) Securities where he is engaged in identifying a variety of select alternative investment fund strategies as well as a curated portfolio of direct and co-investment opportunities. He has spent over 28 years in the finance industry. During the first 20 years of his career, his principal focus was in Private Banking, Capital Formation, and Buy-Side and Sell-Side Transaction Advisory. For the last eight years, he has been substantially engaged in the U.S. Family Office ecosystem as a guest speaker, moderator, guest host, and active conference attendee focused entirely on alternative investments.
Before joining i(x), Tom was Executive Vice President and Head of Capital Formation for a boutique venture capital firm in Boston investing in FinTech, Blockchain and related Digital Assets. Prior to seed and early-stage venture investing, he spent nearly four years at FocusPoint Private Capital Group where he was a Senior Managing Director interfacing with significantly relevant Single and Multi-Family Offices and Registered Investment Advisors across the U.S. and Europe. At FocusPoint, Tom helped his clients identify, assess and ultimately evaluate portfolio risk in a series of bespoke Alternative Investments. Earlier, Tom was at Credit Suisse First Boston and Barclays Wealth respectively working in their Private Banking divisions. As a Private Banker, he was responsible for business development and client service with a focus on Ultra High Net Worth Families and Family Offices as well as ongoing Corporate and Institutional client coverage. During his tenure at Credit Suisse and Barclays, he often served as a liaison to their Investment and Merchant Banking teams as well as to the Corporate Services groups at both firms.
His career began in the Private Client Groups of Lehman Brothers, UBS/PaineWebber, and Citigroup/Smith Barney for more than ten years. He then spent two years at Watson Wyatt Investment Consulting serving Pension Funds, Taft-Hartley, and Endowment & Foundation clients where he was the Regional Director of Business Development in the Northeast. After Watson Wyatt and before joining Credit Suisse, Tom was involved in investment and merchant banking advisory activities representing seed and early stage Technology, Healthcare/Life Sciences and Specialty Consumer companies for nearly four years. During that time, he worked closely with Venture Capital and Private Equity firms primarily in the northeast and Silicon Valley capitalizing, merging, and selling companies in these verticals.
Tom received his B.A. in American Studies from Hobart College and has been an active angel investor for more than twenty-five years. Tom and his wife live in Boston with their two daughters and enjoy serving their community via direct involvement in a variety of not-for-profit organizations.
He holds FINRA Series 7 and 63 licenses.
